P&G Voluntarily Recalls Iams And Eukanuba Dog And Cat Food Due To Potential Salmonella

They had a recall in 2010 and here is a new one….

If you feed your pets Iams or Eukanuba, you might want to check the bags.

Parent company Proctor & Gamble is recalling certain lots of Iams and Eukanuba dog food, and Iams cat food, because the bags were possibly contaminated with salmonella.

P&G says the lots represent .1 percent of total production, but they are removing the bags from the shelves as a precaution.

Not only could tainted food be harmful to the pets, it could be harmful to the people who feed their pets.

P&G said on its website:

"Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian."

Consumers should stop feeding their pets the food and call P&G at 1-800-208-0172, Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
